Control Tower

Andrew Libertone, Colorado

Working in sculpture has been my main artistic focus. In the early 60’s I started to assemble found metal objects. My work then was informed by sculptures from the 50’s and 60’s, I was inspired by this body of work to create my own vision.
Later I explored different mediums but always return to working in steel. I use old style processes to produce a contemporary sculpture. I weld, grind, bend and shape steel and finish the work in powder coated or plated steel.
Inspiration for my current pieces come from design and architecture, a long and fruitful collaboration. Musical rhythms - jazz especially – have also played an important part.
Perforated planes and boxes have been orchistrated to form the basis of these human scale works. Future work will expand on these geometric, playful compositions.
