Jodie Bliss, Colorado
My name is Jodie Bliss, and I am the owner of Bliss Studio & Gallery in Monument, Colorado. I am a practicing artist blacksmith, metal fabricator and glass blower. I create everything from fine art sculpture to custom gates and large scale public art. I believe public art is especially intertwined with the cultural arts community: a representation of ourselves, of our present time, while honoring history. The themes of my work are of invested interest within the following areas: the celebration of strong women on an individual level and the different archetypes that collectively create the fabric of the empowered global female identity, cultural traditions of the world and an exploration of diverse cultural design traditions. I have experience creating, fabricating and installing both custom sculpture and fine art public sculpture. My public sculptures are located in Salina, KS, Denver, CO, Colorado Springs, CO, Monument, CO. My public sculpture is also installed in the University Village Shopping Center in Colorado Springs. I have private commissioned sculptures and custom work in Colorado, Belize and Germany. I provide and exhibit hanging sculptures as stage art to both the city of Monument and University Village Concert Series', organized by Wayne Hammerstadt. I mentored senior college students from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs in designing and building monumental sculpture. I enjoy connecting to community through education. I have been working in metal for over 15 years. In those years I evolved from jewelry fabrication into larger steel sculpture fabrication and eventually into blacksmithing. My use of traditional blacksmithing and metal fabrication tools and techniques in non-traditional ways along with the blowing of glass directly into steel sculptures brings a unique style to the table that you will not find elsewhere!
